Many of my male patients in Florida have come in to ask me about these new wonder devices. Do jaw exercises really work? Are they better than dermal fillers?

What are these popular jaw exercisers on social media?
If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to brands like Jawzrsize and devices like Pop 'N Go. There are ads everywhere showing manly men in the gym chomping down and giving their jawline a sweat. For just $29.95, you can get a jaw like Brad Pitt! But can you do it safely...?
When you chew on these small hollow, rubber balls, they supposedly work out your jaw applying 20-50 lbs of resistance. Jawzrsize (among other brands) promises on their website a "unique workout so that you can slim, tone, tighten or strengthen your face, neck, and jaw... In just a few minutes a day!"
Do jaw exercisers really work?
It's called facial fitness and the thought behind it makes sense. Workout, build muscles, tone your jawline - like any muscle in your body. 💪🏼 Sounds great, right? But it doesn't work that way.
"The chewing or masticatory muscles do not tone or rejuvenate the face. They are simply the muscles involved in chewing. Exercising these muscles is not likely to alter a person’s face substantially," said experts on Medical News Today.
A study that evaluated a similar silicone bite device found that jaw workouts did increase maximum bite force and endurance. However, these results rapidly disappeared after study participants stopped training.
