When is The Best Time to Get The Kybella Double Chin Treatment?

When should you schedule your first Kybella™ treatment? I thought you would never ask. Timing is everything when it comes to some treatments, primarily because of the side effects the treatment may have, especially the Kybella™ treatment. I know your frustration. No matter how much cardio or dieting you do, you just can’t seem to burn off that double chin 😤. And let’s be honest, we all might have gone a little overboard during Thanksgiving dinner 😅. This is part of the reason that Kybella™ double chin treatments are SO popular at THE MED SPA® in Southwest Florida. This treatment is especially in high demand during the holiday season, for multiple reasons.

What are Kybella™ Treatments?

First off, let’s give you a quick synopsis of what exactly Kybella™ is. Kybella™ is an FDA-approved injectable made to eradicate pockets of fat for good 💉. The main component of Kybella® is a man made substance known as deoxycholic acid. This compound occurs naturally in the human body. In fact, it actually facilitates the absorption of excess fat cells. This makes it perfect for the chin, where those stubborn fat pockets refuse to give up residence no matter how many fad diets you try. When Kybella® is injected into the fatty areas below the chin, the fat cells are completely eradicated within 1-4 treatments, leaving a distinct reduction in the chin’s fullness. And even better, once the fat cells are destroyed, your body will permanently stop storing fat in the treated areas! The fat will only come back if you gain weight again, and produce new fat cells.

Kybella® treatments are safe when administered by an experienced medical professional. Each procedure will include several smaller injections in the problem areas. The exact number of treatments needed will depend on your objectives, as well as the level of fullness in the area. Most patients need 1-2 treatments spaced at least a month apart, while others will need more.

Why Do Most People Get Kybella Treatments During A Holiday Break?

There are a few reasons why you might want to schedule your injections during a holiday break. For one, you will experience some inflammation in your chin. This is due to the fact that 1. You basically have a foreign substance implanted there (just for a few days 😁) working quickly to dissolve the fat and 2. You received multiple injections in the chin and naturally you will swell up at each injection site. This might leav you looking like a bullfrog 🐸 for about 3-4 days. Even after the absorption has taken place, you may notice some soreness due to your skin tightening. All this to say, the “colder” months are perfect for this. While you’re never going to experience a “winter wonderland” in Florida, you most definitely won’t be outside quite as much as usual. This will be the perfect time for you to take a few days off of work, stay inside, binge your favorite Netflix shows, and recover with some icing and TLC 🤗 (more on that below).

Another good reason to get your Kybella™ during the holiday break is so that you can feel confident and ready to step in front of the camera at any time 📸 once the swelling has gone down. Don’t you HATE when you have to keep tipping your chin up just to look good in pictures?! Those selfies are the worst 😩.

How Can I Recover Before My Holiday Photos?

Now, I hope I didn’t scare you off 😬. You can rest assured that while the bullfrog look definitely makes pictures a no-go, your face should be looking back to normal within 3-4 days of the injection 👌🏻. In addition to watching your diet and laying low, you just need to follow a few extra steps of precaution:

  • Ice: Ice or cold packs in the 24-48 hours after treatment can work wonders. They minimize the swelling tremendously, and they also help to numb any pain.

  • Elevate: Do what you can to keep your head elevated. Sleeping with an extra pillow will definitely help with this. Elevation will help to lower any pressure in that area, and drain any fluid that needs to be.

  • Massage: Don’t go too rough on the area, but massaging lightly will also help to reduce the inflammation.

  • Antihistamine: Antihistamines such as Benadryl and Zyrtec not only work great for your coughing and congestion, they also can help your swelling decrease.

Can Kybella Treat Fat Anywhere Else?

Yes! Kybella isn’t exclusive to the under-chin area. Kybella works the same way in other parts of the body including:

  • Jowls

  • Bra fat

  • Abdomen fat

  • Under-arm fat

  • Back fat

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella?

Most people are great candidates for Kybella™ as double chin is a common issue as we age. However, some people might actually need chin and jaw fillers to increase projection while tightening lax skin under the chin at the same time. Feel free to book an appointment for a direct consultation with me, Dr. Kamii, DNP! I can help you evaluate your goals and what needs to be done to get you looking 🔥 for those holiday photos!
